STAFF SPOTLIGHT: Joe Azzano
JOE AZZANO
Lead Teacher
Upper Elementary
What led you to become an educator?
I always enjoyed helping people and had a knack for breaking things down in a way that made sense. I knew my whole life I wanted to be a teacher, but struggled to find an age group and philosophy I felt comfortable with. After seeing my daughter in a Montessori school as a toddler, it just clicked! I decided in my mid-thirties to change careers and finally pursue my passion and my calling.
What do you love about working at MANH?
I love getting to spend 6 years with the kids and families in my community. It’s one of the best parts of the Montessori classroom! I feel one of the most important aspects of teaching students in the late elementary/middle school age group is building relationships and trust, and getting to stay with them over a long period of time is critical! Plus, it’s a fun group and I love that I get to know them so well!
What do you enjoy doing when you’re not at school?
Music is my main passion outside of school. Right now I’m the lead singer in a U2 tribute band called Without U2. As a tribute act, I get to take the role of Bono (U2’s lead singer) which includes his moves, his costumes, and of course - his music! I also enjoy golf, video games, and cooking.
