Montessori School of North Hoffman: Our Story

The Beginning: Montessori School

Montessori Academy of North Hoffman started out as The Montessori School of North Hoffman started in 1989 with only eight students in one storefront of a strip mall. By 1993, the school had filled the entire building, and enrollment had grown to 40 students in just a year. In 1996, the school recognized the need for expansion. In addition, a full-size gymnasium and two extra classrooms were built as a result.. This increased the total area from 8,500 to 13,000 square feet.

Since its inception, the Montessori School of North Hoffman has always prioritized offering the highest quality education to its students while following the principles laid out by Dr. Maria Montessori. This commitment led the school to aim for accreditation by the American Montessori Society (AMS) in 1997. Consequently, it achieved accreditation in 1999 after two years of hard work and studying to meet the high standards set by the AMS. The school had to ensure that its curriculum, teaching methods, and facilities met all the requirements set by the AMS, and that its staff had the necessary qualifications and experience. Furthermore, the school had to pass a review by the AMS’s accreditation team, which inspects the school to make sure it meets the standards. As a result, the school became the 42nd accredited Montessori school in the nation, solidifying its position as a leading educational institution that parents can trust.

Growing Up: Accreditation

The Montessori School of North Hoffman has grown with the addition of the Huntington Campus. This satellite campus has increased the number of classrooms for the Primary and Infant/Toddler Programs. The classrooms at Huntington Campus connect indoor and outdoor spaces, encouraging children’s love for learning and nature.

In 2006, the school began a Reaccreditation process to maintain excellence. This led to the creation of a real Montessori middle school program for grades 7-9. The Erdkinder program launched in 2007, making the Montessori School of North Hoffman one of only 102 schools in the nation to achieve Reaccreditation status from the AMS.

The school purchased the foreclosed property at 1250 Freeman, which was situated across from the 1200 property in 2012. In November 2015, 1200 Freeman transformed into the Main Campus, accommodating elementary and primary classes. This relocation enabled Erdkinder to expand up to 12th grade and one primary class at the 1250 location. The school underwent changes and now goes by the name Montessori Academy of North Hoffman. It is located at Freeman East, Freeman West, and Huntington.
