Creating Together: Underwater Worlds and Bold Color

Art

The art room has been full of color and texture this month as students explored sculpture, sewing, painting, and mixed media work across the levels.

First graders worked enthusiastically on sculptures inspired by underwater landscapes. Using cut pool noodles as their bases, they imagined lively ocean scenes filled with coral, sea plants, and small creatures. Each student drew, cut, shaped, and arranged their own pieces, building a tiny underwater world through patient, detailed work.

Second graders finished their coral reef sculptures, filling them with colorful reef-like elements made from paper, yarn, felt, and pine cones. Third and fourth graders are continuing their reef pieces, adding layers and details as their ideas develop. Kindergarten through fourth grade also completed sewing projects on paper and cardboard, practicing concentration, coordination, and care with each stitch. Zia and Taylor have been extending that work through sewing a quilt.

Sixth graders tried negative space painting, focusing on the area around their drawings and building darker layers over time. In Erdkinder, students experimented with watercolor, acrylic, and oil pastel, discovering how each medium can express a different mood. Some also explored color theory, creating vibrant paintings shaped by thoughtful color choices.
