Our Story
A Humble Beginning
In 1989, a small group of just eight students walked through the doors of a single storefront in a Hoffman Estates strip mall. That was the start of what would become the Montessori School of North Hoffman. Even in those early days, the school was rooted in the belief that every child deserves an education that honors their individuality and sparks a lifelong love of learning.
By 1993, the school had already outgrown its original space, expanding to fill the entire building with 40 eager learners. Just three years later, the school added two more classrooms and a full-size gymnasium—growing from 8,500 to 13,000 square feet to meet the needs of its growing community.
Building Excellence: A Montessori Mission
From day one, the school’s mission has been to offer a high-quality education that stays true to Dr. Maria Montessori’s vision. That dedication led to a major milestone in 1997: the pursuit of accreditation from the American Montessori Society (AMS). It was a rigorous process—reviewing curriculum, facilities, and staff credentials—but in 1999, the school became the 42nd AMS-accredited Montessori school in the nation. This achievement affirmed the school’s deep commitment to excellence and integrity in Montessori education. Our school has since been re-accredited 3 more times.
Growing Roots: New Campuses, New Possibilities
With a growing demand for its programs, the school expanded again—this time adding the Huntington Campus (initially called Lotus Montessori Academy) to offer more space for Primary and Infant/Toddler students. These thoughtfully designed classrooms connect indoor and outdoor environments, inviting children to explore nature as part of their daily learning. In 2006, the school began the AMS re-accreditation process, which inspired the development of a true Montessori middle school program. In 2007, the Erdkinder program for grades 7–9 launched, giving adolescents the opportunity to learn through hands-on work, independence, and real-world responsibility—hallmarks of Montessori education.
A New Chapter: Becoming Montessori Academy of North Hoffman
In 2012, the school acquired a neighboring property at 1250 Freeman Road. By 2015, the original site at 1200 Freeman was transformed into the Main Campus, hosting Elementary and Primary classrooms. The Erdkinder program expanded through 12th grade and relocated to 1250 Freeman, marking the school’s evolution into a full Montessori Academy. Today, the Academy operates across three campuses: Freeman East, Freeman West, and Huntington.
Community, Connection, and Celebration
As the school has grown, so has its sense of community. Beloved traditions like Peace Day, International Day, Trunk or Treat, the Thanksgiving Feast, and others bring families together and create lasting memories for students. These celebrations are more than just fun—they reflect the joy, unity, and cultural appreciation at the heart of Montessori education.
Looking Ahead: A Future Full of Promise
Now recognized as one of the area’s top private schools, Montessori Academy of North Hoffman continues to grow while staying true to its foundation. The school remains dedicated to nurturing each child’s potential and guiding them on their individual path of self-discovery.
Looking to the future, the Academy is exploring the possibility of expanding the Freeman West building—bringing all students together on a unified campus and continuing its legacy of innovation and excellence. We’re excited about what’s ahead—and we look forward to having you on this journey with us!
