Creating Together: Nature, Color, and Discovery

Art

Summer camp began with students stepping outside and looking closely at the natural world around them. Primary and Elementary students created nature mandalas, gathering leaves, flowers, twigs, rocks, and other organic materials, then arranging them in beautiful concentric circles. Because these pieces were temporary, students had the chance to enjoy the process, notice patterns and textures, and experience the quiet beauty of art that eventually returns to the earth.

Primary students continued this outdoor exploration by using leaves and found objects to create bugs and figures. Working with natural materials invited imagination, problem-solving, and a little extra wonder as children discovered how a leaf could become a wing, a twig could become a leg, and small details could bring a character to life.

Elementary students also began painting landscapes on canvas, proudly describing the experience as “painting like a real artist.” With easels, brushes, and simple color mixing, they practiced observation, choice, and care. It has been a joyful start to summer, full of fresh air, creativity, and discovery.
