Creating Together: Building, Stitching, and Sharing
The art room has felt especially alive this month. Our second graders leaned into playful experimentation, cutting cardboard and patterned papers to build wonderfully asymmetrical faces. Through thoughtful choices, students discovered that a piece can feel balanced without being perfectly symmetrical.
Elementary students also explored sculpture using garden foam, wire, stockings, and wood. Each material asked for a different approach, encouraging patience, problem solving, and care as imaginative forms slowly took shape.
Fine sewing continued as students practiced embroidery stitches with deep concentration. This quiet handwork strengthens coordination while nurturing perseverance and pride in craftsmanship.
Some upper elementary students are preparing artwork for International Day on March 14. Inspired by North American culture, they are drawing from architecture, artists, landmarks, traditions, and everyday life across the region. Students are also creating a collaborative piece to be auctioned at International Day. Inspired by Vincent van Gogh’s Almond Blossoms, the canvas was divided into small squares so each child could carefully paint a section, symbolizing hope and new life.
In the gym, Ms. Meeta’s new murals celebrate movement, sports, and activity across our athletics programs, brightening the space and highlighting the importance of health and wellbeing for every child.
