Creating Together: Murals, Mandalas, Monoprints, and Weaving!
When students returned this fall, they were welcomed by a burst of color across our campuses. Our art teacher, Ms. Meeta, brightened the Freeman West entryway with a bold flower mural, added a flowing ribbon of color outside Primary Classroom 3, and refreshed the gym with the MANH Mavericks and geometric “M” logo that reflect our school spirit.
In honor of the International Day of Peace, elementary students created intricate woven star mandalas using colorful yarn and beads. These stars draw inspiration from both Japanese and Latin American weaving traditions, where the repeated wrapping and symmetry symbolize harmony and balance. As students worked, they practiced patience and mindfulness—reminders that peace often begins with a calm, centered heart. Each star became a personal expression of peace and unity.
Our Toddler and Primary students explored the colors of fall through leaf monoprints, rolling paint across printing plates and pressing real leaves to capture their delicate shapes. The children delighted in discovering that each print was a one-of-a-kind creation.
At Freeman East, students have also been contributing to a community weaving, threading strands of yarn into a shared tapestry. The rhythmic, meditative process offers a quiet moment of focus and connection, creating a living piece of art that celebrates creativity, collaboration, and calm reflection.
