STAFF SPOTLIGHT: Pat Ellis
Pat Ellis
Director of Operations
What led you to work in education?
Growing up and watching my son attend public school, I saw firsthand how administrators, teachers, and staff balanced countless responsibilities with dedication and care. I always said I’d never work in a school—it seemed incredibly stressful—but after years in nonprofit and for-profit organizations, I decided to give it a try. I accepted a Director of Finance position at a school in Oak Park and quickly became fascinated after attending my first Montessori Journey. I was inspired by Montessori philosophy and the power of learning to truly change lives. I stayed at that school for 23 years before transitioning to MANH. Watching students grow and witnessing their success was incredibly rewarding, and learning from teachers with direct experience in Dr. Maria Montessori’s methods was enlightening. It’s those little moments—when a child accomplishes something new—that always bring a big smile to my face.
What do you love about working at MANH so far?
There are so many passionate people at MANH, and that’s what drew me here. I love the sense of teamwork and shared purpose across the school. Everyone is dedicated to supporting students and one another, creating a positive, forward-thinking environment. It’s rewarding to see how our collective efforts make a real difference every day.
What do you enjoy doing when you’re not at school?
Outside of work, I enjoy spending time with family and friends, cooking, gardening, and traveling. Over the past 25 years, my husband and I have taken in and raised several children, and seeing each of them grow into successful adults has brought us tremendous joy. They all have families of their own now, and being part of their lives—and their children’s lives—is truly rewarding.
