The Power of Being Small: Why an Independent Montessori School Makes a Big Difference

In a world where bigger is often equated with better, we are proud to offer something different. As a small, independent Montessori school, our greatest strength lies in our ability to truly know our students—not just as learners, but as whole people.

Because of our size, we are able to understand each child’s skills, interests, and motivators in a deep and meaningful way. Our teachers work with children over the course of multiple years, allowing strong relationships built on trust to develop naturally. When children feel known and valued, they are more willing to take educational risks—to try something challenging, to persist through difficulty, and to believe in their own capabilities. These are the moments when real growth happens.

One of the most powerful benefits of this close-knit environment is our ability to connect learning to the real world in ways that are personal and relevant. We pay careful attention to what excites our students and use those interests as a bridge to deeper learning. That might mean encouraging a high school student to explore a course at Harper College, helping an elementary student develop leadership skills through meaningful responsibility, or supporting a primary student who is struggling with math by incorporating shark counters—because we know they love sharks.

This individualized approach begins even in our youngest classrooms. For example, when an infant is a late walker, we can thoughtfully support their development by arranging visits to the toddler classroom, offering motivation, encouragement, and a glimpse of what comes next—all within a nurturing, prepared environment designed for their needs.

At every level, we see our students as whole people. We come alongside them in their development—academically, socially, and emotionally—meeting them where they are and helping them grow with confidence. Being small allows us to be intentional, responsive, and deeply connected, ensuring that every child is supported, challenged, and celebrated for exactly who they are.

In our Montessori community, small truly is powerful.
