Bridge Visits Support Each Child’s Path
BY SARA MOTLAGH, HEAD OF SCHOOL
At our Montessori school, we deeply value each child’s journey of growth and development. As children progress from Infants to Toddlers, Toddlers to Primary, Primary to Lower Elementary, and Upper Elementary to Erdkinder, they are not just changing classrooms and teachers—they are stepping into new chapters of independence, curiosity, and joy.
To support these meaningful milestones, we offer Bridge Visits: a purposeful and nurturing way to help children and teachers connect, adapt, and celebrate the next step in their Montessori journey.
A Gentle Bridge
Bridge Visits are more than a simple tour or orientation. They are thoughtfully designed experiences where children spend time in their future classroom environments. Guided by both familiar and new educators, students explore the space, are welcomed by future classmates, and begin to understand new rhythms and expectations.
Once re-enrollment is complete, we schedule Bridge Visits for students moving into Elementary and Erdkinder.
For the Child: Confidence Through Connection
Change can be exciting, and for young learners, it can also be a little overwhelming. Bridge Visits help ease that shift by giving children the chance to:
Explore their new environments at their own pace.
Form connections with future classmates and teachers.
Become familiar with new routines and expectations, and ask questions.
After these visits, most children already feel at home in their future classroom. The space feels familiar, the faces are friendly, and many are genuinely excited to jump
into their new classrooms with confidence and joy.
For the Teacher: Observation, Connection, and Preparation
These visits are just as meaningful for our teachers. They offer an early chance to observe and connect with incoming students, begin building relationships, and get to know each child’s unique needs, interests, and personality. This insight helps guide thoughtful preparations for the year ahead and supports a smoother, more personalized transition for every child.
Celebrating the Journey
Each Bridge Visit is a wonderful reminder of the remarkable growth our students experience within the Montessori environment. They’re not just moving into a new classroom—they’re stepping into new levels of independence, curiosity, and development. For both students and teachers, it’s a special time of connection, reflection, and excitement. At our school, we cherish every step of the Montessori journey. Bridge Visits are just one of the many ways we care for the whole child—mind, heart, and spirit—as they continue on their path of lifelong learning.
